First-Ever Black Welsh Music Awards Launched to Honour Black Musical Excellence in Wales

A landmark moment in Welsh cultural history has arrived with the launch of the first-ever Black Welsh Music Awards (BWMA) — an event created to celebrate the achievements of Black artists in Wales and shine a light on their invaluable contributions to the Welsh music scene.

With nominations now open, the awards aim to recognise musical talent across multiple genres, including Afrobeats, hip-hop, jazz, R&B, grime, gospel, reggae, and Welsh-language music. Organisers say the event will help address the long-standing lack of recognition for Black musicians in the country.

The Black Welsh Music Awards 2025 will take place later this year and are being hailed as a step towards more inclusive and equitable representation in Welsh music and culture. The initiative builds on growing efforts to ensure that the music landscape reflects the rich diversity of Wales’ creative community.
