Black Welsh Music Awards: Celebrating Black Talent in Wales’ Music Scene

The Black Welsh Music Awards (BWMA) have officially launched, marking a significant milestone in recognising the contributions of Black artists in Wales. Dubbed the “Welsh MOBOs”, this new initiative aims to celebrate musical excellence across a range of genres, including hip-hop, R&B, gospel, jazz, Afrobeat, and Welsh-language music.

The BWMA was created to address the underrepresentation of Black musicians within the Welsh music industry. Through public nominations and a formal awards ceremony, the initiative seeks to provide a platform where emerging and established Black talent can be acknowledged and celebrated for their creativity and cultural influence.

Scheduled for October, the Black Welsh Music Awards will serve as a flagship event dedicated to honouring the artistic contributions of Wales’ Black communities, while fostering a more inclusive and representative music culture.
